THE second to the last day of December last year was a date to remember.
Receiving messages of glad tidings and wishes for bountiful days in the incoming New Year ought to have been the usual greetings for everyone to feel happy and joyous. For who would not feel the spirit of joy in the coming of our Saviour, and the welcoming of a New Year in one’s life?
But Short Cuts had a different encounter. His close relative from Mindanao called him up at exactly 11:00 o’clock in the morning of December 30, a Rizal Day celebration.
The purpose of the call?
“Di-in man jud di-ay mahitabo ang Blood Compact sa Bohol. Didto ba sa Loay O sa Siyudad sa Tagbilaran?”, was his inquisitive call.
“Ngano man diay, unsa man diay imong natan-awan?” was Short Cuts’ counter.
“Ang akong amigo nga naga tour sa Bohol natinga-a sa pagkakita sa talan-awon sa Blood Compact diha sa Bo-ol, Siyudad sa Tagbilaran unya duna poy lain diha sa Loay,” was his additional justification to the query.
Indeed, this is a reality which majority of our fellow Boholanos just kept silent on the issue. Even big time politicos seem not to give any degree of importance on the issue.
So, WHERE DID THE BLOOD COMPACT really take place?
It is a fact that the historic event took place in the Province of Bohol. And history further tells us that the event happened on a place near a RIVER.
Does a river exist In Barangay Bo-ol if only to justify the claim of some of our brother Boholanos that the Blood Compact took place thereat?
The answer to the question is definitely NONE. All Boholanos are aware of this issue. Even the total Bo-ol population knows this as a fact.
How about in Loay, is there an existing river in the place where the Blood Compact took place?
The answer is: Definitely, there is.
So, why not rectify the error at the earliest possible time? Why prolong in misinforming the people that may ultimately mislead history?
If Short Cuts’ memory does not fail him, the declaration that the Blood Compact took place at Bo-ol District, City of Tagbilaran was in one of the terms of Governor Lino Chatto in the mid 70s.
