Tagbilaran City clinches top awards in local governance

IN recognition of its outstanding performance on revenue generation and local assessment, Tagbilaran City officials and offices shone bright at the Leadership Congress held at Waterfront Hotel & Casino, Lahug, Cebu City on November 28, 2023, conducted by the Bureau of Local Government Finance in coordination with the Association of Local Treasurers and Assessors Region VII.

Four noteworthy accolades were bestowed on Tagbilaran City including the Seal of Excellence in Local Finance (SELF) Award for City Assessor Fe Almiñe who was recognized as the No.1 Top Performing City Assessor in Region VII, marking a testament to her exceptional contributions in local finance.

Another SELF Award was given to City Mayor Jane Yap in recognition of Tagbilaran City’s role as the pilot LGU of the Local Governance Reform Project. This accolade underscores the city’s commitment to pioneering initiatives that contribute to governance excellence.

For its exemplary collection performance, the City Treasurer’s Office headed by Hubert Inas and the City Assessor’s Office led by Almiñe were lauded for surpassing the local government unit (LGU) collection targets for the fiscal year 2022. The efficiency ratings speak volumes about the city’s financial prowess: Real Property Tax at an impressive 137.76% and receipts from Economic Enterprise at a commendable rate of 107.09%.

Mayor Jane Yap expressed her gratitude for the collective efforts of the city’s financial team, saying, “These awards affirm our commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparent governance. We take pride in our city’s financial achievements, which are a result of the hard work and dedication of our competent team.”

The awards ceremony celebrated not only individual excellence but also the collaborative success of Tagbilaran City in advancing the standards of local governance. The achievements underscore the city’s commitment to financial accountability, effective governance, and continuous improvement in public service delivery.

Tagbilaran City recently garnered prestigious awards, including the coveted title of the “Most Business Friendly City” bestowed by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The city also clinched six awards in the 2023 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index survey of the Department of Trade and Industry.

Just this month, the City received the Freedom of Information Award from the Presidential Communications Office and two accolades from the Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development.
