CONGRESSWOMAN Alexie B Tutor and Batuan Mayor Atty. Antonino “Dodo” Jumawid led the groundbreaking of the long-dreamt road improvement to the mountainous barangry Behind The Clouds, said to be then the hotbed of insurgency in the 80s.
In his facebook post, Jumawid said, “Still a long journey to development, but what is important is, the journey just started, has begun, and the vehicle towards great achievement will continue to run.”
The mayor expressed elation over the road groundbreaking in Poblacion Norte (Highway Kamanayon) to Poblacion Vieja (Gabi) to Garcia Road (Phase 1 of Norte to Behind the Clouds Road via Garcia, Sta. Cruz, Ilaud, Aloja).
He said he indorsed to Congresswoman Tutor the road improvement project as recommended by his group “J&B Padayon Batuan sa Kalambuan,” the barangay officials of Poblacion Norte, Poblacion Vieja and Garcia.
The 2.3 kilometers road as part of the town’s Road network Plan will be constructed through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) III from the national highway to Garcia Hernandez.
The road also is intended to boost the tourism potentials in barangays Garcia, Poblacion Vieja and Sta. Cruz, where the Chocolate Hills are located and the proposed farm-to-market, tha mayor said.
Congresswoman Tutor has exerted efforts that this project in this 5th class town will be funded by the 2022 General Appropriations Act.
The mayor stressed that this also became a reality because of the collaboration with partner agencies and officials concerned to accomplish the “major, vital and crucial development programs, projects and activities” for the sake of the farmers.
Also in attendance were Kag Zeniza Bulalaque , Kag Gamaliel Merlas , Kag Segundo Bautista Kag. Sam Joseph L. Barril, DPWH III ADE Jr Sison representing DE Magiting Cruz, DPWH III Project Engineer Mario Golosino and DPWH engineers, Barangay Captains Joseph Laurden of Poblacion Norte, Emmanuel Jumawid of Vieja, Bobby Pacatang of Garcia, Roga Caduyac of Quezon, Gloria Sambayon of Aloja, Martin Cinco of Quirino, Rolando Pataca of Rizal, Marvin Pancho of Rosariohan and other barangay officials.
The said project concreting will be done within 210 days by Wyn Construction owned by Nereo Llorente.
The post said that barangay chairman Joseph Laurden of Pob Norte expressed his joy and emphasized the need for unity of all officials to make this dream road come true.
But there still are some 45 kms of road that need to be attended to, the mayors said.
The opening of what he called “strategic roads” like the Batuan-Balillihan Road, Batuan – Valencia Road help a lot in the attainment of progress in this part of Bohol and alleviating the plight of the people. (rvo)
