6th City Inter-Agency Basketball Tournament kicks off

THE 6th Tagbilaran City Inter-Agency Basketball Tournament officially kicked off on September 2, 2023, at the Bohol Island State University (BISU) Main Campus.

The vibrant opening ceremony began with a spirited parade by all team coaches and participants along Pres. Carlos P. Garcia Avenue, from Plaza Rizal to the event venue.

This highly anticipated basketball tournament boasts of 51 teams, each representing a diverse array of national government agencies, basketball clubs, schools, local government units (LGUs), hospitals, and various private establishments and organizations.

Dr. Zina Sayson, BISU Vice President for Student Affairs and Services, warmly welcomed everyone to the event on behalf of BISU Main Campus Director Dr. Proceso Castil.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap and Vice Mayor Adam Jala also graced the occasion with their messages of support and encouragement for the participating teams.

Mayor Yap stated, “This tournament is more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of our unity and shared passion for sports. It’s a reminder that we can achieve great things when we work together as a community.”

Former City Mayor John Geesnell “Baba” Yap II, the tournament’s founder, led the participants in reciting the Oath of Sportsmanship, underscoring the importance of fair play and respect among competitors.

Adding a touch of elegance to the event, the Muse competition was held, with Ms. Julien Pedros representing Tagbilaran City Sangguniang Panlungsod emerging as the winner.

Ms. Melrose Oliverio of Team Tagbilaran City and Ms. Jescel Lindo Uy of the City Police Station secured the titles of 1st and 2nd runners-up, respectively.

According to Mr. Roel Sarmiento, City Sports Coordinator, the 6th Tagbilaran City Inter-Agency Basketball Tournament is composed of three basketball Divisions which promise basketball action, camaraderie, and sportsmanship.

It also serves as a platform for various agencies and organizations to come together and celebrate the spirit of healthy competition and community-building.
