VG Balite: Provl Govt prepares for El Nino

VICE-GOV. Victor Balite bared that the provincial government is readying counter-measures to combat the El Nino which is expected to last until the first quarter of next year.

This he announced in one of his sorties in the barangay recently under the program of Abante Bohol Service caravan that literally brought the government to the people.

Balite, who chairs the agriculture committee of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, said that his committee has tackled necessary legislative measures for the onslaught and impact if ever the heat phenomenon hit the province.

This includes funds to be appropriated when necessary and needed by the governor’s office to implement the said measures to cushion the effects of El Nino and awareness campaign for the people, particularly the farmers, to also take care of their farms and environment, like the dried plants that are vulnerable to bush fires.

One of the measures being considered is the could-seeding by use of an airplane but this depends on the advisory of the task force.

The only hitch is that government is not allowed anymore to hire airplane to carry out the cloud-seeding but government owned airplanes, according to Gov. Aris Aumentado in earlier interview.

But the governor to suggest that the provincial government may be able to tap the airforce plane for could-seeding.

Recently, El Nino Task Force has tackled some updates on the weather forecast relative to the continued hot summer days.

The weather agency has announced the towns and other places in the country which have been affected by the unusual rising heat.

It said that in region seven, Dauis town had posted 43”C on May 18, 2023 with the dry bulk temperature of 32.4 and humidity, 74.

Mactan International Airport had 41 degrees Celsius and nearby Maasin City, 43 degrees C.

Gov. Aumentado earlier issued an executive order creating the said task force to address the need to protect the agri-fishery sector and the environment.
