FORMER Vice-Gov., and now Calape Mayor Atty. Julius Caesar F. Herrera has stirred the hornets’ nest this early by strongly endorsing former City Mayor Baba Yap for congressman in the first district  of Bohol come 2025.

Herrera announced publicly that his bet for congressman is Baba Yap during the first Mayor Julius Herrera motocross competition at the town’s wide oval as part of the town’s fiesta celebration on May 10.

This came even as the filing of certificate of candidacy will still be in October next year for the 2025 national and local elections.

Baba Yap was accompanied by his wife, incumbent Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Cajes-Yap and his parents to grace the fiesta at the ancestral home of the Herreras. They were welcomed by the mayor and his wife Atty. Linda L. Herrera.

Baba Yap, who is now serving as the chief of staff of the city mayor’s office, voiced his fiesta greetings to the people of Calape during the motocross race attended by throng of spectators never been seen before.

The couple stayed for awhile to watch the motocross death-defying riders started to race before they left the event.

The biting and scorching heat did not deter hundreds of spectators and probably the biggest so far to watch the race since it entertained them so much after the three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, according to an onlooker in interview.

Baba Yap, who did not comment yet about his endorsement, stirred some of the towns because of his basketball team are always present in the second and third districts for either friendly or invitational or competitive games.

Baba Yap succeeded his uncle former City Mayor Atty. Dan Neri Lim in 2013 when the latter’s third terms ended.

He successfully hurdled the rigors of the government service as city mayor for three consecutive terms (2013-2022).

He fielded his wife, Jane Yap, who became the first lady and the youngest city mayor since Tagbilaran became the city on July 1, 1966.

The first district is now being represented by cong. Edgardo Chatto for his second term.

Baba Yap and Jane Yap and the Chattos under the clique of then Governor Arthur C. Yap were very close ally during the May 9, 2022 elections. (rvo)
