PGBH launches cost-effective measures on heavy equipment

THE Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) has launched an equipment rehabilitation program under the Provincial Motorpool Office (PMPO) aimed at repairing old equipment that can still be economically rehabilitated. The move is expected to enable the PGBh to save millions of pesos from its coffers.

The launch coincided with the blessing of a newly-rehabilitated vibratory roller that was rededicated to service on Sunday, May 7, 2023, through a Holy Mass and Blessing Ceremony attended by Governor Aris Aumentado and PMPO officials.

The 14-year-old Volvo Road Roller RR03 was purchased under the late former Governor Erico Boyles Aumentado at a cost of 3.5 million pesos and was considered for junking after two decades.

With its rehabilitation, the equipment now has an estimated book value of over 559 thousand pesos, (considering that as per COA report, the equipment was valued at over 358 thousand pesos, a rehabilitation cost of 201,529.00), and the equipment can still be used again for an estimated life of five years.

The newly-rehabilitated Road Roller was dispatched by Motorpool to Brgy. Bunot-bunot, Buenavista on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, for a road project.

True to his father’s legacy and virtue of frugal spending, Aumentado directed the rehabilitation program, which included the thorough evaluation of equipment owned by the Provincial Government, especially those that are deemed by COA as fully depreciated, and to repair them should they still have residual economic life.

This move of the PMPO is consistent with the Provincial Government’s Strategic Change Agenda that stresses the importance of ensuring that public funds are handled frugally and to invest in more sound and practical solutions.

According to PMPO head Engr. Abraham Clarin, the PGBh can maximize the use of existing resources and promote responsible spending, as well as demonstrate its commitment to providing quality infrastructure to communities all over the province.

Clarin added that current inactive vehicles would undergo assessment and eventual rehabilitation in the coming months to provide more functional equipment for infrastructure projects in Bohol. (PiMO/JJA/GMC)
