THE Department of Agriculture (DA) handed a Solar-Powered Irrigation System to its beneficiary, the Bugang Irrigators Association (BIA), during a turn-over ceremony, on May 8, 2023, at Sitio Bugang, barangay Catungawan Sur, Guindulman.
The solar pump costs P P5,995,805.99 million pesos from DA’s annual allocation funds. It has 64 panels that can irrigate up to 10 hectares of fields in that area. Its water source comes from a river in the area, with the irrigation running from 6 AM to 6 PM.
The turnover ceremony was attended by Governor Aris Aumentado and Guindulman Mayor Albino Balo, both sharing a message on the importance of using the newly-given project to advance local agriculture in the area.
This event was also attended by Guindulman’s Municipal Agriculturist Geoffrey Gulay, LGU Guindulman Officials, and the Department of Agriculture R7’s Roman Dabalos, who represented Regional Executive Director DA RFO7, Dir. Angel Enriquez, Engr. Rodrigo Pechon DA Engr. III, Brgy Captain Catalino Caga, the Barangay Sanggunian, captains of other barangays, and BIA members.
BIA is a people’s association registered with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and has 36 members, currently chaired by Norberto Bitancor. (PIMO/ALT/GMC)
