Tiptip wins Saulog Street, Field Dancing competition

Barangay Tiptip (Contingent #14) declared as GRAND CHAMPION in the 2023 Saulog Tagbilaran Street Dancing and Ritual Showdown Competition held on April 30, 2023 at the CPG Sports Complex, Tagbilaran City.

BARANGAY Tiptip was declared grand champion of the SAULOG 2023 street, field dancing competition held on  April 30, 2023 at the Garcia Sports Complex, Tagbilaran City.

For the victory, the Tiptip contingent received P250,000 cash prize plus a trophy.

Despite the intermittent rains that delayed the street/field dancing  performance, all the 15 groups representing each barangay never showed any bit of discouragement in the duration of the performance.

Aside from having been hailed grand champion, Barangay Tiptip swept five of the six special awards: Best in Street Dancing, Best in Choreography, Best in Production Design, Best in Costume and Best in Field Performance, winning an additional combined cash prize of P100,000 and several trophies.

Barangay Poblacion III was awarded second place and received P200,000 in cash and a trophy. This barangay also received the Best in Musicality award, with P20,000 cash prize and a trophy.

Bagging the third place was Barangay Poblacion II, which received P150,000 in cash and a trophy.

Barangay Dampas was awarded fourth place and received P120,000 in cash and a trophy.

The Saulog Tagbilaran 2019 Street and Field Dancing Champion, Barangay Ubujan, settled for fifth place and took home P100,000 in cash and a trophy.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap expressed her praises to all the contingents for their dedication and hard work in preparing for the event, which paid off with their impressive performance on the day of the competition.

“Congratulations to the street dancing winners and all the participants for a job well done. You have brought pride, not only to your respective barangays, but to the whole city as well,” Mayor Yap said.

Mayor Yap also announced that next year, the street dancing champion will receive an additional prize of P1,000,000 worth of barangay projects. 

Senator Mark Villar, who was the Guest Speaker during the event, commended all the participants and organizers for their commitment and dedication in preserving the rich culture and heritage of Tagbilaran which was displayed during the Saulog festivities.The judges of the Saulog Tagbilaran 2023 Street Dancing Competition included the following: Dr. Larry Gabao of Manila; Dr. Carlou Bernaldez of Negros Oriental State University, Dumaguete City; and Mr. Arvin Magpiong of Siquijor Provincial Science High School.
