TAGBILARAN City Mayor Jane Yap spearheaded the 630 strong Tagbilaran City delegation at the opening and parade of contingents during the first day of the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVRAA) on April 24, 2023 held at the new Carcar City Sports Complex.

The event brought together thousands of athletes from across the region to compete in various sports events for one week.

This is the first CVIRAA in almost four years as the event was momentarily halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Athletes, coaches, officiating officials, and working committee members from 17 participating public and private elementary and secondary schools in the city make up the Tagbilaran City delegation.

Mayor Yap expressed her pride over the city’s athletes and their hard work and passion for sports that brought them to the CVRAA.

“These young athletes have dedicated themselves to their respective sports, and it is an honor to see them represent our city in this regional event,” Yap said.

The City Government of Tagbilaran has been consistently extending its support to the City Schools Division headed by Superintendent Dr. Wilfreda Bongalos.

For this year’s CVRAA, the City has [provided all] athletes [the following]: a training allowance of P3,228.00 each; complete set of uniforms – shirts, jogging pants, jackets and caps; playing uniforms; meals and snacks; toiletries- towel, soap, shampoo, rubbing alcohol, toothpaste and toothbrush; vitamins, energy drinks and bottled water; and sleeping materials such as bed linens, portamats, pillows, and blankets.

Mayor Yap urged the members of the Tagbilaran City delegation to give their best efforts for the event and uphold the values of sportsmanship and fair play all the time.

“We are behind you all the way, and we believe in your abilities to make us proud,” Mayor Yap concluded.

The CVRAA, which is held annually, aims to showcase the athletic skills and abilities of the region’s students while fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship among them. It features various sports such as basketball, volleyball, athletics, and swimming, among others.
