BOHOL Island State University (BISU) main campus in Tagbiaran City has readied the requirements for its application for college of medicine.
This came after BISU Vice-President Dr. Maria Lilibeth G. Castil requested for a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with provincial government thru Gov. Aris Aumentado for the free use of the Bohol Cultural Center and the CPG Sports Complex as venue for its socio-cultural activities such as, but may not be limited to Graduation Ceremonies, Sports Events and other related activities as part of the requirements for the opening of a Medical School.
The governor has caused the letter of indorsement to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial board) of the request of BISU.
“Bohol Island State University- Main Campus is soon to open the School of Medicine to augment the need of the province and the country for more community health practitioners,” according to the government properties committee chaired by Provincial Board Member Greg Jala.
One of the requirements to comply for the operation of the said medical school, is the availability not only of health facilities but also relevant infrastructures for socio-cultural activities such as the Bohol Cultural Center and the sports Oval of the CPG Complex which are all accessible to the university, hence, the request to forge a Memorandum of Agreement for the said purpose and be willing to comply with the provisions, terms and conditions regarding the use of the facilities, the committee report said.
BISU’s request is one of the requirements for accreditation and that to show the documents that they have connections with the Provincial Government and City Government, if ever big activities will be conducted which cannot be accommodated with their BISU Activity Center.
Considering the Bohol Cultural Center and the CPG Sports Complex are covered by the provisions of Provincial Ordinance number 2011 -015, it is deemed proper that instead of the provincial government having to state specific dates for reservations, it should be BISU, hence the submission of its calendar of activities.
This way the provincial government could provide an opportunity to schedule all the activities as required by its institution leading other dates for the purpose of using for the general or for the public use considering that provincial ordinance 2011 is implemented for income generation.
Hence, BISU is required to submit to the Committee a tentative calendar of activities of the School of Medicine to be incorporated in the revision of the MOA so as to agree on the schedules, and another committee meeting will be called thereafter. And BISU submitted the said School of Medicine’s Tentative Calendar of Activities thru a letter dated March March 08, 2023.
The Committee then recommended to the SP that BISU- Main Campus School of Medicine be allowed to use the facility but with corresponding fees under Provincial Ordinance 2011-015 and that a letter be sent to the Office of the Governor prior to the use of the facility with the specific date of use, the specific facility to be used and the kind of activity to be conducted.
