MANY were wondering why it took just 7 hours for the police authorities to apprehend the suspects in the massacre of former Governor Roel Degamo and other civilian fatalities in Pamplona, Negros Oriental.
Knowing the track record of the police authorities, and based on experience, some victims of killings have become mere numbers or statistics to the list of unresolved killings in the country.
As time passes by, and the police are still facing a “blank wall” in the investigation, the kin of the hapless victims end up as another number to the growing list of wailing citizens of the country who are asking for justice from the “blind” goddess of justice.
Seldom do the police turn up with suspects as quickly as they do now with the Degamo massacre.
So how did they do it?

Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, widow of the slain governor, told us last Friday how the police very quickly apprehended the suspects.

And she said thru the CCTV footage that was posted on Facebook, they got positive confirmation of the killers.
How, was the immediate follow-up question.

And just like the other people in the province, she said that she also believes that a politician is behind the killing, just as the same personality is also believed to be the same mastermind in the killing of many other victims in the province.
She also underscored that the lawyer-victims in the past, whose killings are still unresolved as of the present, were prosecuting land-grabbing cases involving the same notorious politician.
While she is saddened by her husband’s death, Janice Degamo said she also believes that the death of her husband may be the game-changer in the growing list of unresolved killings in the province.

With the deployment of 10,000 military personnel in Negros Oriental, there is no doubt that BBM really meant business when he told the mastermind on TV that you can run but you cannot hide.
This is unprecedented in the country’s political history when so much military and police are deployed in a province following a killing spree.
