NOTHING could stop a couple in love. 61 couples exchanged “I do’s” in front of City Mayor Jane Yap as the solemnizing officer in the annual FREE civil mass wedding conducted yearly by the City Government.
Valentine’s Day 2023 now holds a significant meaning for the couples as they were officially tied by no less than Mayor Jane Yap in the Saulog Gymnasium. Mayor Yap together with the Supervising Statistical Specialist Jocelyn Sarmiento from the Philippine Statistics Authority spearheaded the momentous occasion.
“Make every effort to understand your spouse. Since you came from different backgrounds, disagreements are unavoidable. So always bear in mind your commitment to each other. Never allow these little misunderstandings ruin your relationship, let love win,” emphasized Mayor Jane Yap.
Local Civil Registry Head Jubelyn Pulgarinas said each couple was provided with a rice cooker, wine, 2-layered wedding cake, bouquet, corsage, and a full hair and make-up.
The bridal gown, veil, barong, and slacks were also provided by the City Government. Principal sponsors First Lady Jane Yap and City Councilor Atty. Adam Relson Jala gave 10 kilos of rice. After which, a wedding snacks (good for 10) was given to the couple’s guests.
This initiative is pursuant to Proclamation 682 which declares the month of February of every year as Civil Registration Month. The LCR in each local government unit which is under the auspices of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is mandated by Republic Act 10625 to carry out, to enforce, and to administer civil registration functions in the country.
The celebration of the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Month enhances public awareness on the importance of civil registry documents. Civil Registry is the mandatory recording of permanent records of vital events in the life of a person such as birth, marriage, and death. (Jeanette Busano)
