PERSONNEL from the Tagbilaran City DRRM Office has undergone the 10-day Rescue Diver course conducted by CMAS (Confederation Mondiale Des Activities Subaquatiques) International Diver Training Standards and Procedures.

The training was conducted in two batches and was held in Panglao, Bohol. The training course was in response to the Clarin Bridge mishap in the Municipality of Loay. Tagbilaran City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CDRRM) personnel were the first responders on site. The incident inspired the CDRRM team to upgrade their capabilities in underwater rescue.

The 10 new rescue divers will compose the City Rescue Dive Team under the Search Rescue And Retrieval (SRR) unit of the CDRRMO and will now be able further capacitate the city’s response to maritime emergencies in the city for which 9 barangays are coastal.

Tagbilaran City can now also assist neighboring municipalities, being the BIG BROTHER and the lone city for the Province of Bohol.

All of these would not be possible if not for the leadership of CDRRMO Department Head Gerard M. Lavadia and the full support of City Mayor Jane Yap and Sir Chief Baba Yap along with the 15th Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tagbilaran. (Jeanette Busano)
