IN the spirit of Christmas and a time of giving and putting a smile on the faces of our children, the Provincial Government of Bohol has once again started the distribution of fresh milk and bread bun to 4,444 undernourished children aged 3-5 years old in the Province of Bohol.

Eleven municipalities have initially started the distribution. The following town compose the first batch of beneficiaries: Alicia with 150 beneficiaries; Guindulman, 150; Jagna, 122; Dimiao, 130; Valencia, 100; Loay, 120; Lila, 100; Baclayon, 100; Dauis, 126; Panglao, 148 and Bilar with 130 beneficiaries.

A total of twenty-seven (27) municipalities with high prevalence of underweight and stunting are identified in this year’s feeding program based on the data from the Provincial Nutrition Council.

Aside from those mentioned, the others include Pilar, Carmen, Sagbayan, Balilihan, Antequera, Maribojoc, Cortes, Bien Unido, San Miguel, Dagohoy, Getafe, Buenavista, Tubigon, Danao, Ubay and Pres. Carlos P. Garcia.

The Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) of the said municipalities will handle the distribution of fresh milk and bun to the beneficiaries in their respective barangays.

This Provincial Milk Feeding Program is a 30-day program with the objectives to supplement the nutritional needs of our children and to generate more livelihood opportunities to have stable income for our local dairy farmers.

The program is made possible through the efforts and collaboration of the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV), Provincial Health Office (PHO) thru the Provincial Nutrition Council and the Education Development Center (EDC) in partnership with the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), National Dairy Authority (NDA), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Education (DepEd) and the Bohol Dairy Cooperative (BODACO).

It will be recalled that the provincial government launched the milk festival in Ubay town sometime in July this year for the same purpose. (PHO PR)
