THE 15th SP approves CDRRMC Resolution No. 09, Series of 2022, approving the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan of Tagbilaran City for Calendar Years 2023-2025. In their 3-year plan, the CDRRMO proposed a project establishing a desalination plant in the city.
The plant will be used to convert seawater to freshwater. Thus, ensuring sufficient freshwater supply in the city, especially at times of calamities or crises.
Furthermore, through Proposed Ordinance No. 28-22, the August body intends to require all gasoline stations, water refilling stations, and other essential business establishments in the city to have operational generator sets to be used as supplementary or alternative power sources.
Just recently, the City Government of Tagbilaran extended its warmest congratulations to the CDRRMO for being adjudged as FULLY-COMPLIANT (National Level) by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council thru the National Gawad KALASAG Selection Committee.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) awards the Gawad Kalasag Seal to Local DRRM councils and offices for adhering to the “standards for the establishment and functionality of the local DRRM Councils and local DRRM Offices” as outlined in Republic Act 10121, also known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.
The CDRRM has always exhibited its preparedness whenever a typhoon or possible flooding is imminent by conducting regular pre-disaster meetings.
Incident Command System are automatically activated. The meeting is made to have the pre-assessment rolled out and for the proper implementation of pre-emptive disaster plans.
Also, before the onset of any weather disturbance or impending flooding report, the CDRRMO immediately establishes its Emergency Operations Center (EOC), including the activation of barangay EOCs and the setting up of a Communications group which is on stand-by 24/7.
The CDRRMO continuously conducts training, including Training of Trainers, Basic Incident Command Course program, orientation, and local DRRM activities, among others to hone the skills of its members. (Jeanette Busano)
