Gimingaw sila

THE whole universe experienced for more than two years of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Everybody was into the world of uncertainty especially during the first six months of its occurrence.
Even the most scientifically prepared countries were helpless as to its origin. Much more into the possible solution if only to arrest the daily and heavy increase of individuals being infected all over the world.

As to the reasons, no human being was ever gifted to offer the possible answer to such a worldwide problem.
Third world countries, like our own Philippines, were totally dependent on the findings and detections unearthed by rich countries. Filipino leaders were mere followers to the DOs and DONTs figured out by leaders of the affluent countries.
As a consequence, mass gatherings were barred. Face shields and masks were made obligatory. Social distancing was further imposed.

In fact, going out of the streets was strictly imposed at the early stage of the pandemic days.
However, these restrictions imposed by the government earlier proved beneficial to big families, as discussed by Short Cuts’ column in the 2020’s.

Why?

Because it was only then that Short Cuts with a family of twenty-two grandchildren and five great grandchildren identified them personally. He was already with them always. Almost daily, they were with Short Cuts at the dining table at the ancestral home.
But before the imposed restrictions caused by the pandemic, Short Cuts could hardly call them by their first names.

Before the pandemic, Short Cuts was always at his school attending to the academic concerns of his tertiary schools. The only interval to this schedule is his almost daily trip to his farms in LGU Carmen.
Simply said, Short Cuts had a meager schedule of time with his grandchildren.

But with the milder restrictions imposed by government authorities for the last few months, everyone is now encountering smiling faces. Groupings of friends in and outside classrooms and buildings are now a common sight.
Affairs in barangays and municipalities are now fully loaded. Even ordinary basketball and volleyball games in the barangays are filled with spectators.

This was prominently shown during the celebration of the 153rd Foundation Day of LGU Valencia on October 27.
The one-week celebration –day and night – was always filled with spectators both young and old. The Senior Citizens were not exempted. They were given a whole day participation.
