BOHOL’s first high-rise public housing building is set to rise in Tagbilaran City. Mayor Jane Yap led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Tagbilaran City Tenement Housing project.
The high-rise public housing facility is one of the flagship advocacies of Mayor Jane Yap.
A beneficiary selection committee will be established to process applications for potential occupants. Along with Mayor Jane Yap is City Vice-Mayor Atty. Adam Relson Jala, Sir Chief Baba Yap, Acting City Administrator Cathy Torremocha, City Engineer Teody Estoque, City Planning and Development Office Engr. Estella Margate, General Services Officer Dr. Chris John Torralba, City Surveyor Engr. Noel Datahan, City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Ceasar Pelaez, City Planning and Development Office Engr. Fulgencio Sabijon, Joseph Alexis Cadelina, Urban Poor Association Presidents, and members of the Barangay Dampas Council.
Upon the assumption of Mayor Baba Yap, the City Government of Tagbilaran has been working to provide an affordable and safe housing to the city’s informal settlers. Various site inspections have been conducted to scout for an appropriate location for the socialized housing. Partnerships with various agencies such as the National Housing Authority, Social Housing Finance Corporation, Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor, and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development has been established.
To date, there are 42 urban poor organizations in Tagbilaran. The Local Shelter Plan is scheduled for updating to address the gaps in the housing sector. (Jeanette Busano)
