Ug hangtud karon, ana-a ang mga kaso sa “media killings”.
Ang beteranong brodkaster nga si Percival Mabasa o mas nailhan nga “Percy Lapid” maoy bag-o lang nga journalist nga nahisugamak sa kamatayon.
Gipatay kini sulod sa sakyanan (gi-ambush) sa wala pa mailhing mga mamumuno hangtud karon.
Ang iyang pamilya nagpakitabang na sa Malakanyang.
Si Pres. Bongbong Marcos, Jr. giaghat sa pamilya ni Percy Lapid nga gamiton ang iyang tingog aron masulbad ang maong kaso ug mahatagan og hustisya ang gipatay.
Ang igsoon sa gipatay nanawagan kaniadtong Huwebes ngadto ni PBBM alang sa tabang.
“I want the president to lend his strong voice, to closely monitor all the cases, and ensure that the Philippines indeed subscribes to human rights,” matud ni Roy Mabasa, kinsa usa usab ka journalist, sa pakighinabi niini sa ANC’s Dateline Philippines.
“Or else, we will just like be in the past administrations where human rights violations really proliferates,” dugang niya.
Si Lapid kinsa gipatay kaniadtong Lunes, kritiko sa administrasyong Duterte ug sa ubang opisyales sa kasamtangang administrasyon.
Ang Las Piñas City PNP niingon nga ana-a na sila’y lead sa maong kaso ug niingon nga ang kamatayon ni Lapid anaay kalabutan sa trabaho niini isip komentarista.
Si PBBM kaniadtong Merkules atol sa usa ka panagtapok nga gi-organisar sa Manila Overseas Press Club niingon nga ang iyang administrasyon mo-suporta ug mo-protektar sa mga katungod sa taga-media.
“As I share your club’s conviction in the importance of upholding the universal right of free speech and press freedom, as well as giving and receiving accurate information, I’m committed to remain open with you, constantly communicating our progress as we move forward,” matud niini sa iyang speech.
Ang Palasyo usab pinaagi sa usa ka opisyal niini nipaabot sa “concern” sa Presidente sa pagpatay ni Lapid.
“The president should lend his strong voice in ensuring that no stone will be left unturned in this particular case,” suma ni Mabasa.
Dili siya gusto nga ang kaso sa iyang igsoon malakip ra sa tala sa mga wala naresolbar nga media killings sa nasud Pilipinhon.
“If I can recall, since 2006, there were already about less than 200 cases of journalist killings in this country. And we do not even know how many of them were solved, how many cases were filed, and how many were dismissed.”
“So, in as far as the case of my brother is concerned, we do not want this to be part of a mere statistics,” ni Mabasa pa.
“I hope ito na sana yung last na journalist who will fall under this new administration,” dugang niini.
“Fifteen years ago, I used to head an organization of journalists also. And one of my advocacies is to stop journalist killings. And here we are now…, the very victim is my own brother. So that means, there was no progress done from that point up to the point where we are right now,” matud ni Mabasa.
“So, this is a big challenge to the government. Even I, I’m a journalist, too, I don’t feel safe anymore if I go out from here. If I want to go anywhere, I don’t feel safe anymore. So, it’s a challenge to the government to ensure, not just journalists but ordinary Filipinos, that their safety is a government concern,” dugang pa niya.
Niingon usab si Mabasa nga si DILG Sec. Benhur Abalos, nga nibisita sa ilang pamilya kaniadtong Merkules, “assured… that he will exercise all the powers under his authority to run after the perpetrators of this coward act of killing my brother.”
Nagpasalamat usab kini sa pagbisita ni Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin sa haya ni Percy kaniadtong Huwebes.
“He made an assurance that the government is doing it all can to investigate and to probably file charges against those found to be behind this dastardly act,” butyag ni Mabasa.
Si Mabasa nangayo usab og tabang sa publiko sa kon kinsa ang makahatag og impormasyon kabahin sa maong kaso.
“Merong nakataya diyan na P1.5 million in total (reward money). Those sum of money will be useless kung hindi magko-cooperate ang community,” matud niya.
Si Abalos usab nitanyag og P500K nga reward money kon kinsa’y makahatag og tinuod nga impormasyon sa pagkapatay ni Lapid.
Nanawagan ang mga sakop sa media nga mohimo ang gobyerno og lig-ong balaod nga magprotehir sa katungod ilabina sa kinabuhi sa mga journalists, lakip na ang mga ayuda nga angay ihatag kanila.
Atong hinumduman nga dako kaayo og papel ang media sa Pilipinas isip giilang ika-4 nga estado.
