RECKLESS driving means driving with no proper caution or driving carelessly. In other words, reckless driving is driving under no control or with limited skills that are unexpected from a driver. When you are risking people’s lives and not obeying the traffic rules, you are a reckless driver. If the driver is also driving with less attention, focus, and skills required of a driver, he is also driving recklessly.
Reckless driving carries with it a substantially increased accident risk. Traveling at an excessive speed requires a much faster response time and can lead to significantly greater injuries if you do have an accident. Not only that, reckless driving can carry other severe penalties, tickets, and fines ( The Hazards of Reckless Driving, September 14, 2022 ).
As defined by the law, a driver is considered reckless when he or she drives a vehicle without any reasonable caution. This includes not considering traffic situation, road width, crossing or pedestrian, curves, grades, visibility, and any other highway, weather, and atmospheric conditions. It also covers causing direct possible harm to people and animals, as well as damages to properties ( Reckless Driving in the Philippines: All About Its Consequences, September 14, 2022 ).
A driver is also considered a reckless driver if he or she is doing the following: over speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal drugs, answering a call, reading and sending a text message, talking to another individual, drinking or eating, getting items on the dashboard or floor, adjusting the car stereo and using other gadgets while driving ( Reckless Driving in the Philippines: All About Its Consequences, September 14, 2022 ).
Reckless driving is included in Republic Act Number 4136 under Miscellaneous Traffic Rules. The law has a general but detailed definition of reckless driving, which covers specific types of violations ( Reckless Driving in the Philippines: All About Its Consequences, September 14, 2022 ).
Reckless driving is not a good practice for drivers. It can cause harm to people and damage to properties. Drivers must drive their vehicles carefully in order not to cause harm to people and damage to properties. The government should strictly implement or impose laws on reckless driving to save lives and properties. Republic Act Number 4136 must be strictly implemented and all drivers must religiously follow it. It is because this act is implemented or imposed for the safety of one and all.
Drivers must focus their attention on driving when they are driving. They must not do other things like answering a phone call, reading and sending messages, eating or drinking, or talking to other individuals and among others. These things can destruct their attention when they are driving. They must focus their attention on driving so that everyone will be safe and sound. When drivers drive, they must only drive.
Reckless driving should be avoided by all drivers. All drivers must drive their vehicles properly, carefully, and with concentration. If drivers are driving recklessly, they must be dealt with accordingly based on the rules and regulations on reckless driving. It is because if they are not dealt with accordingly or if they will not be given penalties and punishments, they will continue doing reckless driving. So, to avoid reckless driving to happen, the government must strictly implement rules and regulations on reckless driving, and also the drivers must be driving carefully.
