TAGBILARAN City Mayor Jane Yap vowed that her administration will not tolerate traffic violations and will implement them whoever, including her relatives, get caught.
This came as the most of city streets in the city proper are almost filled with illegal parking. This earns Tagbilaran a “no parking city,” city councilor Budlong bared this based on what he heard during the radio interview on Saturday.
The illegal parking by mostly private vehicles along the no-parking spaces has contributed to bottlenecks in small streets.
And reports said that some 2,000 new vehicles bought from car dealers by residents have added to the narrow streets’ cramming.
One of the approaches being cooked by the city mayor is the establishment of pay parking areas in the city apparently to decongest the streets.
Budlong, transport committee chairman in city council, echoed the mayor’s plan for pay parking areas to raise funds.
It was not immediately known if the raising of funds from the proceeds of the pay parking was the result of the city’s decreased share of National tax Allotment (NTA), formerly the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA). The city is expected to lose almost P100 million from its NTA share for next year.
He called on the public to participate in the public hearing on the said plan on Monday, August 15, 2022.
The city mayor also is eyeing to tap vacant lots for parking spaces in the city but there’s no definite areas for this purpose.
City traffic management office supervisor Tony Samante is entertaining the idea of one-way traffic loop to control traffic jam. This approach has been proven ineffective and did not work when this was tested before.
The traffic rules for cargo trucks appeared to be not followed when they were Implemented before, like the one in Bool going thru the Alturas bodega. But many still used the V.P. Inting street from Bool, where the cargo truck are supposed to turn right if they come from Jagna town.
Another point that the city traffic management and council must look into is the putting of clamping signs on the street which are not included in the ordinance, like the Lino Chatto drive at the front of new Capitol buiding in barangay Cogon. City Kagawad Ondoy Borja confirmed this snag in media interview. (rvo)
