Promises and vigilance

All newly elected officials have finally been sworn into their respective offices. The expectations and promises mentioned by said officials during the election campaign were again uttered during their inaugurations. Some have already started the process of keeping their oath to their respective residents; however, only time will tell if they will genuinely fulfill their promises.

What can we expect from these newly elected officials? From their words and standing, we should expect an even cleaner and more transparent government and a government that is genuinely for the people and not just for the elite.

Why is that important? For us, it is crucial since the people have been thirsting for a government that cares and hears its citizens’ cries. How can we be sure these new government officials will uphold their promises? We can genuinely say that we are not 100% sure they will keep their promises, but we, as Boholanos, should also do our part in criticizing their every move.

Why? Because it is their mandate to do good in their oath, and any situation that deviates from that is something to blame. The election campaign may have ended, but our responsibility as moral citizens is never over. Keep vigilant, and stay woke!
