Parental Engagement, Learners’ Motivation, and Learners’ Academic Achievement

One of the most essential variables in young children’s learning has been recognized as parental involvement in schooling. Parents have traditionally been regarded as the children’s first teachers. The motivation of students is another aspect of great importance in the field of education.

It is a state of being energized, directed, and sustained in one’s actions and impacts academic achievement.

The study aimed to determine the level of parental engagement and its association with the learners’ academic motivation and learners’ achievement, Dauis District, Division of Bohol for the School Year 2021-2022.  To gather the data, the researcher utilized the following standardized questionnaires:  for the level of parental engagement, it adopted the questionnaire of Joana Marie B. Digo; and for learners’ motivation, it adopted the Motivated Learning Strategies Questionnaire by Pintrich et al (1991) 

For the academic achievement, the researcher will use documentary analysis of the learners’ academic achievement. The learners’ parents are fully engaged in their modular classes. All the three dimensions, namely, modular class supervision, support of resources, and moral support obtained a rating of Fully Engaged. The grade six learners in the District of Dauis are Highly Motivated.  Grade six learners obtained a Very Satisfactory rating in their academic achievement.

There is a significant relationship between religion and learners’ motivation. It implies that the religion of the learners did influence their level of motivation. 

There is a significant relationship between the combined family income and the learners’ academic achievement.

There is a significant degree of correlation between parental engagement and learners’ motivation. It signifies that parental engagement and learners’ motivation are significantly correlated. It implied that when the parents are highly engaged, the better the motivation of the learners.

As a school principal, there is a need to institutionalize programs, projects, and activities to address issues, concerns, gaps, and difficulties in the achievement of school goals, objectives, and mandates as specified in DepEd vision and mission statements.

A school needs a strong partnership with internal and external stakeholders to deliver the best quality of basic education services.
