AROUND 100 youth leaders from across Bohol gathered for the 2026 Sandugo Youth Leaders’ Camp on August 21-22, at the Bohol Cultural Center.

Organized by the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), through the Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO), Bohol Island Geopark Management Unit (BIGMU), and Bohol Center for Culture and Arts Development (BCCAD), the camp provided a platform for youth leaders to strengthen leadership, cultural awareness, and advocacy for the Bohol Island Geopark.

During the opening, PYDO Executive Support Section Head Melvin Salinasal emphasized the role of young people in nation-building, encouraging them to make their voices heard and stand with courage for what is right.

UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines Program Office for Culture Program Officer Rajee Florido, meanwhile, delivered the keynote address, focusing on the youth leadership journey and their role in changing hearts and minds toward peace.

Vice Gov. Nick Besas, in his inspirational message, described the youth as the “pag-asa ng bayan,” noting their principles, leadership qualities, and potential to contribute meaningfully to society.

The camp also featured “Pakiglambigit: The Bohol Island Geopark (BIG) Talk,” covering geoeducation, geoconservation, and geotourism.

Speakers included 4GEON Club Adviser Melody Joy Pasok, BIGMU Junior Writer and Content Creator Jhon Lendon Rubia, and LGU-Anda Municipal Tourism Office representative Rouvien De Guzman.

The “Geoknow: Istorya Ta! Youth Leaders for BIG Innovations” session was led by experts in the field and highlighted the collective responsibility of youth leaders beyond their respective municipalities.

PYDO Head Metodio Maraguinot Jr. provided the summation, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration among the participants.

Maraguinot reminded participants that while they represent different aspirations and communities, they can unite as one force for Bohol, recognizing that their actions and contributions have an impact on others.

Under the leadership of Gov. Aris Aumentado, the activity supports the Capitol’s Strategic Change Agenda, particularly its focus on Cultural Heritage, by empowering Bohol’s youth to become active partners in protecting, promoting, and sustaining the province’s natural and cultural heritage.
