LITERACY is the foundation of lifelong learning and academic success. In line with the Department of Education’s commitment to improving foundational literacy among Filipino learners, Learning Action Cell (LAC) Sessions provide a collaborative professional learning platform where teachers enhance their instructional competencies, share best practices, analyze learner data, and develop effective literacy interventions. Through continuous class observations and post conferences, data-driven capacity-building could be offered for teachers to become better equipped to implement evidence-based literacy strategies that improve learners’ reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension skills. Improved learners’ literacy achievement is evident by strengthening teachers’ instructional competencies through collaborative school-based LAC sessions.
LAC sessions can be managed by learning area experts, master teachers, and school leaders. There is a need for the school leader to ensure that the LAC session is data-driven, needs-based, process-based, and participatory in nature.
Learners’ literacy assessment results and emerging literacy needs need to be analyzed. From the allotted time, it is expected that there is an attainment of specific objective for the scheduled date of the LAC session. Strategies in the implementation of differentiated reading instructions are also expected to be enhanced.
Is is also expected that integration of learning concepts across learning areas, monitoring activities and the use of appropriate assessment tools will also be considered. One of the most expected concepts during LAC sessions is the sharing of best practices and classroom innovations, interventions, and strategies.
Important considerations before the conduct of LAC sessions is that, it should be approved by the top management for important considerations.
