THE Observed the Observer Program (OTOP) is an instructional supervision and coaching process implemented in the Department of Education to improve the quality of classroom observation and instructional leadership. In the Schools Division Office (SDO) Bohol, OTOP serves as a quality assurance mechanism where supervisors observe how school heads, master teachers, or instructional leaders conduct classroom observations and provide coaching and feedback to teachers. Let me share with the you a facebook post of a teacher who experience OTOP in SDO Bohol. “Observation is not something to fear, but something to appreciate. Every observation is an opportunity to learn, improve, and grow professionally.Yesterday’s conversation with our Principal:
Ma’am V: Maam Nhal, naa tay bisita ugma. Moari si Ma’am Maya to observe GMRC or Filipino. Mag-ready gyud tang tanan ugma. Magpili pud ta ug KS2 representative ha.
Me: Yes, Ma’am. Walay problema. Go gyud ta kay role model baya ta. Master Teacher unya mobalibad? Dili pwede! Heheheheh
Ma’am V: smiled with purpose and said, “Kung moingon sila nga adto ta sa laing level, aw adto ra pud mi mo-observe. OTOP baya ni.”
Me: smiled and confidently accepted the challenge. And this morning, it finally happened. All glory and honor belong to You, O Lord!
The OTOP activity was a great success. To be honest, nakaingon gyud ko, “Mao diay ni ang OTOP?” Especially knowing that one of the observers came all the way from the Division Office. Today reminded me of a valuable lesson: sometimes, the observers are also being observed. I am grateful for the positive feedback, constructive comments, and technical assistance shared by everyone—from our Principal, the PSDS, and most especially Ma’am Maya. Maam Vian, thank you for always encouraging, inspiring, and guiding me. Your words of wisdom and constant support motivate me to become a better version of myself. I truly appreciate your trust, mentorship, and the positive influence you have on my personal and professional growth. Maam Libeth, thankful and grateful always for your support in our school. P.S. Sakto ra gyd akong oras, relax daw kaayo ko nga wala ko gigukod. At most of all, maayu daw kos akong communication sa Tagalog. Indeed, OTOP is fun, meaningful, and full of learning. In short: CO for Term1 is successfully done.
With OTOP pa from Division Personnel Maam Maya.” Analiegh Cortes . Indeed, observation should be a classroom activity that should be considered an avenue to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and risks in the delivery of instructions. Reflections such as, “what went well, what needs improvement, and if given the opportunity to do it again, how are you going to do it differently”, be considered. The observation needs to be data-driven to propose needs-based and participatory interventions to address identified gaps, issues, and concerns.
