THE adolescent years are a significant period in the formation of values, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. During this stage, learners encounter different influences from their families, peers, school, community, digital platforms, and other social environments. The reason why, there is a need that parents, teachers, and the entire community should consider activities for some interventions, activities, and experience for the total development of these young learners.
These experiences can shape their understanding of respect, responsibility, honesty, compassion, discipline, perseverance, and concern for others. In this context, schools have an important role in providing meaningful experiences that encourage learners to reflect on their actions and practice positive values in their everyday lives.
One activity that may provide an avenue for reflection and values formation is communal prayer. The praying of the Holy Rosary is a traditional Catholic devotional practice that encourages reflection, meditation, perseverance, humility, compassion, peace, and service. When conducted appropriately and consistently with applicable educational policies and respect for religious freedom and diversity, a Friday Rosary Prayer may provide learners with opportunities to develop reflective habits, practice self-discipline, demonstrate respect, and strengthen their sense of community.
At some schools, the Rosary Prayer may serve as one of the school’s activities that provides learners with opportunities for spiritual reflection and the practice of positive values. There are schools that pray the Daily Rosary or just even on Fridays. Conducting the activity every Friday can establish a regular time for learners to pause from their usual academic routines, reflect on their actions and relationships, and consider how positive values can be applied in school, at home, and in the community.
Through participation, learners may have opportunities to develop behaviors associated with respect, responsibility, compassion, cooperation, discipline, peacefulness, and service. There is a belief of the Catholics that praying that Holy Rosary may provide more blessings and guidance from the Mighty Creator with the intercession of the Blessed Mother Mary. However, while prayer and religious practices are often regarded as potential sources of moral and character development, the relationship between participation in the Friday Rosary Prayer and learners’ values formation should be examined through systematic and objective inquiry. It is important to determine whether learners who participate more consistently in the activity demonstrate differences or associations in selected dimensions of values formation. Evidence from the school setting can provide a more informed basis for planning and improving values formation activities.
