PHYSICAL fitness plays a significant role in the holistic development of learners. It contributes not only to their physical well-being but also to their mental, emotional, and social growth. In today’s educational landscape, many learners spend extended periods engaged in sedentary activities, resulting in reduced physical activity and increased health concerns. Schools, therefore, are challenged to provide innovative and engaging strategies that promote active lifestyles among learners.
Dance exercises have emerged as an effective and enjoyable form of physical activity that combines movement, music, and creativity. Unlike traditional exercise routines, dance exercises encourage active participation through rhythmic movements that improve cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, coordination, balance, and muscular strength. Moreover, dance activities foster self-expression, confidence, teamwork, discipline, and appreciation of culture and the arts.
Research has shown that integrating dance exercises into school programs can enhance learners’ motivation to participate in physical activities. The enjoyable nature of dance helps reduce stress and anxiety while promoting positive attitudes toward health and fitness. Dance exercises also provide opportunities for learners of varying abilities to engage in meaningful physical activity, making them an inclusive intervention for diverse school populations.
