Poland invests honorary consulate in Bohol

TAGBILARAN CITY – The embassy of Poland has inaugurated the honorary consulate of the Republic of Poland in Bohol and installed Zarah Jao Dejaresco as honorary consul in a simple ceremony today (March 5, 2026) held at Bohol Tropics Resort Club in this capital city.

The event said to be the first in Bohol was led by Poland ambassador to the Philippines Her Excellency Kataryzna Wilkowiecka and Bohol Gov. Aris Aumentado and this city’s Mayor Jane Censoria Yap.

The envoy of Poland is looking forward for the strengthening of economic and cultural ties between Poland and Bohol in the days to come.

Aumentado said in gist that the honorary consulate is a symbol of friendship to assist and protect citizens from Poland in their visit in Bohol, the one and only UNESCO-designated Global Geopark in the country.

Congressman John Gessnell Yap (1st district, Bohol) looks forward for more visitors from Poland as echoed by Provincial Tourism council co-chair Atty. Lucas Nunag, encouraging more Poland citizens to visit Bohol, which recorded some 1.4 million tourists in 2025.

Provincial administrator Aster Caberte welcomed the envoy and her Poland consul Sebastian Marek Kmita and company.

Ms. Zarah Jao Dejareso, who was with her husband Peter Dejaresco attending, accepted her appointment as honorary consul whose office is located at the heart of this city, saying accepting this is a solemn responsibility. The inauguration ended with a lunch.

Vice-Gov. Nick Besas, Provincial Tourism Officer Joanne M. Pinat, Provincial Investment Officer Inday Dominise, Dauis town Mayor Marietta T. Sumaylo, Panglao town Mayor Boy Arcay and private sector representatives attended the event. (Ric Obedencio)
