
ANDA, Bohol – This premier tourist cape town in Bohol’s eastern board marked another milestone in its cultural and religious history in launching the ‘Dujanon festival’ in honor of its patron saint Sto, Nino on January 19, 2026. The date is also the 141st fiesta day of the town.
The mayor led the mardi gras judges in handing over the awards/prizes to the winners.
Barangay Virgen grabbed the Dujanon Fest as overall champ. Barangay Sta. Cruz settled for 1st RU and barangay Talisay, second runner-up. Talisay was also declared as Best in Ritual.
Brangay Virgen grabbed the Best Production Design followed by Sta. Cruz, first runner-up and Brgy Tawid, second RU. Barangya Katipunan got the Most Discipline award.
Barangay Virgen clinchedas champ the Best in StreetDancing. Barangays Sta. Cruz and Katipunan got the 1st and 2nd RU, respectively.
Mayor Inday Simacio pointed out in gist that celebration is a form of thanksgiving to their patron saint. It’s also for the celebration of dignity of the people.
The presence of Vice-Mayor Ruena Castrodes Porter and SB members and Provl Board Member Johana Cabalit Initay and hundreds of people, supporters and foreign tourists give color to the celebration.
This year eight of the 16 barangays participated in the showdown in street dance and ritual contests under the blistering heat as matter of agreement. The other eight barangays that did not partake this year will be the one to showcase their street dance knack next year.
An observer commented that the Dujanon presentation and dance contigents have improved a lot, from its art in dance steps to choreography, better than the year of its inception. But there’s a lot to improve especially in focusing on Dujanon idea.
Dujanon refers to a native “dujan” or “duyan” usually made of light native materials, where a baby is being placed to serve as his/her crib. It also serves as a pacifier. (Ric Obedencio)
