City Council honors Tagbi Bishop Uy for
his appointment of Archbishop of Cebu

IN a heartfelt and unanimous gesture, the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tagbilaran City passed Resolution No. 25-297 last September 30, 2025, expressing deep gratitude and admiration for His Excellency, the Most Reverend Alberto Sy Uy, D.D., for his eight years of dedicated and transformative service as Bishop of the Diocese of Tagbilaran.

The 16th SP, in its regular session, also extended its warmest congratulations to Bishop Uy on his recent installation as the new Archbishop of Cebu, one of the most historically significant and prominent archdioceses in the Philippines.

In the Resolution, the City Council recognized Bishop Uy’s exemplary pastoral leadership marked by humility, wisdom, and compassion since his ordination as bishop in 2017. His episcopal ministry was highlighted by his commitment to strengthening parish communities, promoting social and environmental justice, empowering the laity, and nurturing vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

His installation as the new Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cebu took place on September 30, 2025, and was attended by bishops, clergy, and lay faithful from across the country, including a strong delegation from Bohol.

The City Council assured Archbishop Uy of the continued prayers and support of the Tagbilaran community as he begins a new chapter of service in the Church.

On behalf of Archbishop Uy, the Resolution was officially received by Fr. Ruel Ramon Tumangday, Rector and Parish Priest of the St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral Shrine-Parish, during the regular session of the 16th Sangguniang Panlungsod held on October 7, 2025, at the SP Session Hall, Tagbilaran City Hall.
