TAGBILARAN CITY – Bohol Vice-Gov. Nick Besas, Sangguniang Panlalawigan chair, banged the gavel for the approval of financial aid to the tune of P5 million for the earthquake victims, provincial Board Member Nathaniel Binlod said.
The provincial board approved such fund during its special session on Friday and after Gov. Aris Aumentado requested for the said financial aid.
Cebu Gov. Pam Baricuatro is reported to be grateful of the Bohol financial assistance to support Cebu’s ongoing relief and recovery operations following the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck the province on September 30, 2025.
Aumentado has initiated the move, reassuring Cebu of immediate assistance despite Bohol is also being affected, though sustaining only minor damage. The financial aid is expected to be given to the Cebu provincial government on Sunday, Oct. 5.
Bohol Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) sent four medics, two ambulance operators with ambulance unit and one Search and rescue vehicle. The medics team included the Department of Health (DOH): two doctors, three nurses, one driver with ambulance unit and Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) four policemen and nurses.
The city government of Tagbilaran also sent help “in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Cebu,” City Mayor Jane Yap said.
She said that the city is not only bringing materials, tools, genset or drinking water and ready-to-eat food but also trained personnel and rescuers to support their immediate needs.
It will be recalled that the provincial government of Bohol has helped in rescue and retrieval efforts days after the Yolanda super typhoon (International name: Haiyan) hit Leyte in November 8, 2013, just three weeks after a magnitude 7.2 earthquake shook Bohol with scores of damages and deaths on October 15, 2013.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) is reportedly closely monitoring four faultlines due to the potential for significant earthquakes and tsunamis. “Recent activities have been observed in the East Bohol Fault and South Offshore Fault, with PHIVOLCS tracking multiple earthquakes in the area.”
The known fult lines in Bohol: North Bohol Fault: Located in Inabanga and near Clarin, this reverse fault was responsible for the 2013 Bohol earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2. It stretches across from Inabanga town to Oslob, Cebu.
East Bohol Fault: A strike-slip fault starting at Barangay Tayong, Loay, and traversing through Lila, Dimiao, Valencia, Garcia Hernandez, and reaching up to Sierra Bullones-Pilar area. This fault is under critical watch due to its potential for significant movement.
South Offshore Fault: Adjacent to the town of Anda, affecting southern coastal towns from Anda to Maribojoc. This fault line was responsible for a magnitude 6.8 earthquake in 1990 near Anda.
Maribojoc Fault: A shorter fault located at the foot of Maribojoc mountain, with studies still ongoing to determine its status and potential energy release, report said. (Ric Obedencio)
