THERE are no projects in Bohol’s 3rd engineering district contracted by the controversial Discaya construction corporations, Planning officer Ian Lomotos of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) third engineering district categorically said in an interview.

When asked if the Discaya had sub-contracted some infrastructure projects in the third district, Lomotos said none.

The definite reply of Lomotos has dispelled insinuations posted in social media that Discaya construction has cornered some infra projects in the district.

The projects being projected as the one allegedly undertaken by one of Discaya’s construction firms are the flood control in barangay Bugsoc and the one (mitigating flood structure) in barangay Salvador.

What triggered the controversy was that Cezarah Discaya, whose family-owned construction firms were under scrutiny, has mentioned that she contracted projects in Bohol during the Senate committee investigation in aid of legislation.

In a statement, District Engr. Magiting Cruz also pointed out that there are no ghost projects in his area of responsibility.

Sierra-Bullones Mayor Atty. Michael Doria said in a press interview that there are DPWH-implemented projects in his turf and he is happy for them.

He cited the completed concrete flood mitigation project in barangay Bugsoc. He told press interview that this certain project is needed to prevent further destruction of nearby houses and rice farms from floods.

The concrete bridge that connects the flood control is worth Php22 million funded by General Appropriations Act of 2022, according to Lomotos.

Doria said he is happy with those projects implemented in his town, but only that these projects were not coordinated with the municipality.

A reliable report said that former Batuan Mayor Atty. Antonino Jumawid was quoted as saying that they proposed certain projects for the town and submitted it but the DPWH rejected it. (rvo)
