TAGBILARAN City once again solidified its reputation as a leader in health and nutrition governance after bagging two major recognitions from the Department of Health (DOH) Region VII through the National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region VII.
The recognition was done during the awarding rites held on August 15, 2025 at Marco Polo Hotel, Cebu City.
For the third consecutive year, Tagbilaran was conferred the Green Banner for Nutrition Award, a distinction given to local government units that consistently demonstrate excellence in the implementation of nutrition programs.
The award underscores the city’s strong performance in ensuring that nutrition interventions effectively reach communities and contribute to sustainable health outcomes.
In addition, Tagbilaran also earned a citation for Good Nutrition Practice through the innovative integration of Nutrition Counseling under the Fit for Life Program.
This is a homegrown initiative that promotes healthier lifestyles and preventive health care across all age groups.
At the helm of these achievements is Mayor Jane Yap, Chairperson of the City Nutrition Committee, whose guiding principle of “Serbisyong from Womb to Tomb” ensures that interventions holistically address the nutritional needs of Tagbilaranons throughout the life cycle.
Complementing her leadership is the dedication of the city’s nutrition team led by City Health Officer and concurrent City Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Jeia N. Pondoc and City Nutrition Program Coordinator Rey delos Santos, who personally received the awards on behalf of the City Government of Tagbilaran.
Mayor Yap expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the city’s success.
“These awards belong not just to the City Government, but to every frontliner and partner who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of our people. I extend my deepest thanks to our Barangay Health Workers, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, barangay officials, the dedicated employees of the Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility, and our partners in the private sector and national agencies. Your hard work and collaboration made these milestones possible, and together, we will continue building a healthier, stronger Tagbilaran,” she said.
These dual recognitions affirm that for Tagbilaran City, nutrition is not merely a government program but a shared responsibility and a long-term investment.
With the strong partnership of its leaders, health workers, partners, and communities, Tagbilaran continues to shine as a model city for effective nutrition governance in the region.
