TAGBILARAN City was recognized for its exemplary efforts in health promotion after receiving two prestigious awards from the Department of Health (DOH) during the 2025 Regional Health Promotion Summit held on June 10, 2025 at Bai Hotel, Cebu City.

The city was honored with the Good Practices in Health Award for its innovative Fit 4 Life Club program and the Healthy Communities Award under the Independent Component Cities/Municipalities Category.

The awards highlight the city’s strong and sustained commitment to building healthier, more resilient communities through people-centered and inclusive health programs.

The awards were received on behalf of the City Government by City Health Officer Dr. Jeia Pondoc and Mr. Robin Culpa of the Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility (TCPCF), who played key roles in implementing the city’s health and wellness programs.

In her congratulatory message, Mayor Jane Yap expressed pride and appreciation for the city’s health frontliners and partners.

“These awards reflect our collective effort to place health and well-being at the heart of governance. I commend our TCPCF employees led by Dr. Pondoc, our barangay health workers, barangay officials, and health advocates and partners for making this possible. We remain committed to creating a healthier Tagbilaran where every citizen has access to quality care and opportunities for a better life,” she said.

The Fit 4 Life Club, one of the city’s flagship health initiatives, promotes active lifestyles and preventive care through organized fitness and wellness activities targeting various age groups.

Meanwhile, the Healthy Communities Award affirms Tagbilaran’s comprehensive approach to public health—integrating education, environmental sanitation, community participation, and equitable service delivery.

The recognition from the Department of Health underscores Tagbilaran City’s growing reputation as a model for local health governance in Central Visayas.
