RECOGNIZING the importance of coral reefs for biodiversity, coastal protection, and tourism itself, 1Pacman Party-List’s first nominee Milka Romero has desired their protection and sustainable management.

“I want to protect our reefs, I want to protect our locals and I want to strengthen our communities,” Romero said during a proclamation rally of mayoral candidate Leonila Montero of Abante Panglao on Monday night, March 31.

Romero, a young business, socio-civic, and sports leader, said that she fell in love with the beauty of Panglao, a top tourist destination in the country.

As an advanced open water diver, Romero said Panglao is a diver’s paradise. The island has many wonderful dive spots great for all levels.

“Kaya love na love ko ang Panglao. Nasa puso ko ang Panglao,” she told the crowd.

Preserving the natural beauty of reefs is crucial for underwater tourism. Since tourism carries inherent risks, such as accidental damage caused by snorkelers and divers, measures must be taken to mitigate these risks and protect the fragile reefs.

Romero takes over the helm of 1Pacman Party-List as her father Rep. Mikee Romero ends his three consecutive terms in Congress in June. (rvo/BIN)
