THE last two weeks of the enrolment period for the second semester of School Year 2024-2025 for the tertiary courses had passed. To many, the event may have no importance at all.
Short Cuts, however, had a different feeling. He was filled with memories that seem to remind him of the ups and downs in his life.
The ups refer to the semesters in his college work when he finished a semestral work always with flying colors. And this points to a record where he was always an honor student until his graduation in his Preparatory Degree for the College of Law.
But, despite his colorful scholastic record, Short Cuts could hardly enroll every ensuing semester.
Reason or reasons?
He cannot pay his registration fee.
And, the amount for the registration fee?
Even if it was as cheap as P2.00 per semester ONLY!
That was the downs of Short Cuts’ life as a college student.
Every enrolment period in every semester, Short Cuts has no alternative but to ALWAYS plead for kindness from the treasurer of the school in order for Short Cuts to get enrolled.
Thanks to her generosity. Had it not of her kindness, Short Cuts could have not graduated even a single degree in college.
To you Ma’am Treasurer, may our Almighty Father provide you eternal peace!
The last two weeks, Short Cuts had nostalgic feelings.
And it is a matter of record that Short Cuts is “an early bird” when it comes to going to his daily routinary work. He has been to this schedule since his early days as a practicing lawyer. Even today at an old age, Short Cuts leaves his residence for inspection trips to his farmlands as early as from 5:30-6:30 in the morning.
Then for the last two weeks in his daily trips to his farm, he was always approached by students at his residence who were earlier denied enrolment at the Office of the Registrar of the school because of unpaid tuition fees.
Almost all of them were teary-eyed in approaching Short Cuts.
Their purpose?
They request for enrolment for this Second Semester despite their balances in tuition fees!
“Mora ug gikumot ang akong dughan sa maong situasyon.”
“Ngano man?”
Short Cuts remembered his past. These students were as poor as he was during his student days.
Therefore, after reading their promissory notes, the requests were all granted.
