THE dreaded African Swine Flu (ASF) virus is spreading fast. This time, it is heavily inflicting a barangay in Trinidad town.
This prompted Vice-Gov. Tita V. Baja, acting as governor on Friday, to issue an Executive Order No. 04, “declaring ASF infected premises and quarantine areas in barangay M. Roxas, Trinidad, Bohol.”
The acting governor’s fiat also provided preventive measures to contain the ASF spread.
This came after the Sangguniang Bayan of Ubay, one of the ASF-affected towns, declared the town under the state of calamity, according to the office of the Mayor Constantino Reyes.
Among the measures being carried out is the establishment of a 100-meter radius from purok 4, where the first ASF infected hogs were discovered. It also strictly banned the movement (in and out) of all hogs and its products for 90 days. Continued monitoring and surveillance and information dissemination were also in place.
Similar measures are being implemented in some towns affected by ASF thru the EO enacted by Gov. Aris Aumentado, who is hell bent to protect the P6-billion industry.
The governor told media interview, earlier, that the spread of the virus was not immediately reported to authorities until many pigs have died already. He said that he will look into why there were no words from the Barangay Livestock Aides (BALA) as far this malady is concerned.
The ASF spread was so fast that it invaded at least six towns in less than two months of last year after the affected barangay San Vicente, Pilar town sometime in 2023.
The towns are San Miguel, Batuan, Carmen, Trinidad, Pilar and Ubay.
Authorities said that some 126 hogs in barangay San Francisco, Go. Boyles and Gabi, Ubay were depopulated. (RVO)
