THE City of Tagbilaran was once again recognized for its exemplary disaster preparedness and management, receiving the Gawad KALASAG Seal of Excellence – Beyond Compliant and the Special Award for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Humanitarian Assistance for CY 2024.
The prestigious accolade was given during the 24th Gawad KALASAG National and Regional Awarding Ceremony, held on December 5, 2024, at the Bohol Cultural Center, Tagbilaran City.
City Mayor Jane Yap and personnel from the City DRRM Office Marko Emmanuel Longjas and Airah Artaba proudly accepted the awards, on behalf of Tagbilaran City.
The recognition was presented by the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Region 7 Director Joel Erestain with Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado, further highlighting the city’s leadership in disaster resilience and humanitarian initiatives.
Mayor Jane Yap expressed her gratitude for the honors, stating: “This award is a reflection of our collective efforts to build a resilient community. Our City DRRM team has shown dedication and innovation in disaster preparedness and humanitarian assistance. We continue to strive for excellence with regular capacity development trainings and providing additional equipment to ensure the safety and security of every Tagbilaranon.”
The Gawad KALASAG (Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan) awards are the country’s premier recognition program for disaster risk reduction and management.
The KALASAG honors outstanding practices and innovations in disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation, ensuring communities are resilient and better prepared for natural and human-induced hazards.
Tagbilaran City’s consistent excellence in disaster preparedness was also recognized last year when it received the same prestigious award.
With these awards, Tagbilaran solidifies its reputation as a model for disaster preparedness and management in the region.
