FULL Prof. Dr. Leonardo Munalim, as of this writing, has advanced to 16th place among Philippine linguist-researchers in the 2025 edition of the Alper-Doger (AD) Scientific Index.
This is an improvement from his 24th position in 2024.
His research performance falls within the “Social Sciences/Linguistics and Literature, Top 100 Scientists in the Philippines” category.
BIT International College alumnus, Dr. Munalim, joined the higher echelon of researchers from big universities in Metro Manila, namely, De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University, and University of Santo Tomas.
Professor Munalim, however, acknowledges the shortcomings of the AD Scientific Index.
“As a researcher myself, I am fully aware that the ADSI is not without its controversies, particularly concerning its rigor, reliability, consistency, and certain methodological aspects declared on its website,” he stated.
“Though it may not be entirely accurate, I still view it as a benchmark that reflects my standing in terms of research productivity and citations within this neoliberal academia,” Dr. Munalim continued.
Since 2020, Dr. Munalim has been the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and the concurrent Research Director of The Philippine Women’s University (PWU). He teaches Spanish and English at this 106-year-old university.
He also serves as a language consultant of Dr. Tito Boy Abunda and a language lecturer for The Boy Abunda Talk Workshop.
Prof. Lio finished his MA in English and PhD in Applied Linguistics both at Philippine Normal University – Manila, the country’s National Center for Teacher Education by virtue of R.A. 9647.
He credits his passion for research writing to the guidance he received during his college years at BIT, particularly from Dr. Zosima L. Revita, the then Dean of the College of Teacher Education, and Dr. Alma Bella Balite-Diputado, college administrator-owner.
Dr. Munalim graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English from Bohol Institute of Technology (now, BIT International College) in 2004.
Professor Lio hails from Hinlayagan Ilaya, Trinidad, Bohol.
