MODULAR instruction is a different approach to teaching that uses resources that are specifically designed to meet the needs of the students. Students are encouraged to work on a range of interesting and challenging assignments in order to maintain focus and attention which encourages independent study. An instructional module is a self-contained unit focusing on a learning goal or instructional emphasis. Usually, it consists of documents, discussion boards, multimedia experiences, and information that groups and students can use.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, face-to-face interactions between students and teachers have been discontinued. Modular remote learning has been employed as a temporary solution to guarantee educational continuity in light of this epidemic. The ongoing innovations of educators and the active participation of other stakeholders are propelling the country, Philippines’ adaptation to the new educational standard. This is supported by DepEd Order No. 018, s. 2024 entitled, “Policy Guidelines for the Provision of Learning Resources in the Implementation of the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan.
During disasters, calamities, and conflict of curricular-related activities, modular instructions are encouraged to continue with the leaning processes.
The Tropical Depression, known as “KRISTINE” and known worldwide as “TRAMI,” made landfall in the Philippine Area of Responsibility around 12:00 AM on October 21, 2024. There were chief local executives who suspended classes from kinder to the secondary levels on October 22, 2024.
On October 23-24, 2024 Governor Erico Aristotle C. Aumentado, issued Suspension of Classes at all levels for the entire province of Bohol. The schools’ internal and external stakeholders were informed with the issuance easily through the social media.
Teachers immediately provided virtual and hard copies of the learning modules for the learners. The distribution of the LMs was monitored by the school heads.
The traditional way of responding when classes were suspended was to hold Saturday classes with approved requests from the SDO top management. Department of Education is so fortunate for the adoption of distance leaning or modular instruction for learning to take place despite calamities and with overlapping activities.
If properly monitored, follow-ups made by the teacher during the resumption of classes, there is an assurance of a positive impact in the engagement of modular instructions.
