TAGBILARAN City took a significant step forward in enhancing the welfare and safety of its elderly population with the launch of the Modern Senior Citizen ID, featuring a unique QR code.

This innovation was unveiled during the culmination of the Elderly Filipino Week on October 7, 2024, at the Saulog Gym, Tagbilaran City, in front of a large gathering of senior citizens and local officials.

The new Senior Citizen ID is designed to provide crucial information in emergency situations, with the QR code containing details such as the senior citizen’s health conditions, maintenance medications, and emergency contact information. This feature is intended to aid rescuers and healthcare providers in offering quick and accurate assistance, ensuring the safety of the city’s elderly residents.

Mayor Jane Yap, in her message during the event, emphasized the city’s ongoing commitment to the well-being of its senior citizens. “Our senior citizens are the foundation of our community. Their wisdom and contributions have shaped Tagbilaran into what it is today. This new ID system is a testament to our commitment to ensuring that they live with dignity and safety,” she said.

The launch was part of the larger celebration organized by the Office of the Senior Citizens Association, led by Ms. Ester Budlong and Ms. Evelina Leyble, along with the Federation of Senior Citizens Associations of the Philippines (FSCAP) – Tagbilaran City Chapter, under the leadership of President Engr. Mauro Mejares, Jr.

Local officials, including City Administrator Alvin Luis Acuzar, Ms. Lucille Clarin of the City Social Welfare and Development Office, and City Councilors Fausto Budlong, Gemma Inting, and Charles Cabalit, also addressed the senior citizens, highlighting their essential role in shaping the city’s development and progress.

The Elderly Filipino Week celebration did not only focus on the launch of the new ID system but also provided opportunities for fellowship, entertainment, and recognition of senior citizens’ achievements.

With the introduction of the Modern Senior Citizen ID, Tagbilaran City continues to lead in implementing forward-thinking initiatives that prioritize the safety, well-being, and active involvement of its senior citizens in the city’s growth and development.
