TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA)—From the government’s General Appropriation Act of 2024, (GAA 2024), Congresswoman Vanessa Aumentado successfully took a share of some P256 million from infrastructure projects for Getafe alone, a town in Bohol’s second congressional district.

Already looking forward and planning for better chances at connecting the district to major investments, the congresswoman wife of the governor slipped in some P128 million for the road widening of the national highway in Poblacion to Taytay and then to Barangay Carlos P Garcia (CPG), which would be critical in the future plans of opening up the Cebu Bohol bridging link which could  potentially choke the traffic within the Poblacion to Barangay CPG stretch.

The Bohol town situated closest to Cebu, Getafe has been eyed as the landing host of a bridge that would connect Cebu to Bohol: a multi-functional bridge that not only opens a facilitated land-traffic to and from Cebu, the bridge has also been eyed to carry precious water resources from Bohol to Cebu.

Moreover, the bridge could also carry the critical and more reliable fiber optic line connections from Cebu to Bohol, as compared to the delicate submarine cables that connect Bohol to the national information superhighway.

Although still in the design stage, the bridge would also be the much-needed giant infrastructure that could rouse this rustic town in the northwestern part of Bohol.

And to buffer the potential influx of traffic as well as the usual inflow brought about by the brisk expansion of Talibon and the industrial propping up of Buenavista’s shipbuilding activities, the lady solon also readied the construction of roads with built-up slips, slip-collapse and land slide protection for the town’s secondary roads in Barangay Saguise, Tugas, Corte Baud and Campao Oriental.

According to Congresswoman Aumentado, the entire project costs another P28 million, which should keep the Department of Public Works and Highways District Engineering Office II busy for the next months.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremonies of the said projects, the lady Aumentado, said the diligent work done by LGU Getafe led by Mayor Cary M Camacho and Barangay Officials deserve an equally motivation if only to effect more rapid economic development for the town.

And in preparation for the rainy days and the potential that this can bring to the town’s critical infrastructure, Aumentado also put in some P50 million worth of flood protection and control for Salog Bridge in the highway leading to Talibon, and yet another P50 for similar flood control and protection for Calunasan Bridge in barangay CPG.

The lady solon, still in her first term congresswoman, also handed out over P312 million of similar key infrastructure projects to Buenavista last week. (PIABohol)
