HOLY Week, in the Christian church, is the week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. It is observed with special solemnity as a time of devotion to the Passion of Jesus Christ. In the Greek and Roman liturgical books, it is called the Great Week because great deeds were done by God during the entire week. During Holy Week, Christians recall the events leading up to Jesus’ death by crucifixion and according to their faith, His Resurrection (www.britannica.com, March 20, 2022).
According to saintpats.org (March 20, 2022), Holy Week is an important time for Christians throughout the whole world. Holy Week, the final week of Lent, begins on Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter. Holy Week is a time when Catholics gather to remember and participate in the Passion of Jesus Christ. The Passion was the final period of Christ’s life in Jerusalem. It spans from when He arrived in Jerusalem to when He was crucified.
Holy Week is one of the most important events in the Catholic Church. It is a time when people commemorate the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. People remember His actions, reflect on His messages, and recommit to living as His disciples in the world today. Holy Week is most definitely a very sacred time of the year, for we commemorate and remember the last week of the life of Jesus on Earth.
During the Holy Week, people also do some repentance of all their sins and go back to God Almighty. Repentance means the act of leaving what God has prohibited and returning to what He has commanded. The word denotes the act of being repentant for one’s misdeeds, atoning for those misdeeds, and having a strong determination to forsake those misdeeds.
Repentance is the way provided for us to become free from our sins and receive forgiveness for them. Sins slow our spiritual progression and can even stop it. Repentance makes it possible for us to grow and develop spiritually again. The privilege of repenting is made possible through the Atonement of Jesus Christ

It is really important for us to ask forgiveness for all our sins committed, especially during Holy Week, and to go back to God. It is important because through asking forgiveness or repenting from our sins, for our feelings to be light and for our conscience to be cleaned and not guilty. During Holy Week also, we need to sacrifice ourselves. We should do what we used to do during Holy Week. We should not eat meat; we should not be extravagant in everything we do; we should not take vacations, and we should not commit sins as much as possible. Instead, we should be living a simple life; we should go to church and pray, and we should repent and go back to God.
Let us not forget that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us. So, it is proper to repent ourselves or ask for forgiveness of all the sins we have committed. Let us do this for us to be near to God. Sins make us far from God; they can create a wall between us and God. It can make us far from God. So, repentance is a must. We should do good for us to pay back what God has done to us.
It is also right and proper to heartily listen to the Seven Last Words of Jesus Christ before He died during Good Friday. These last words of Jesus Christ are really meaningful and can be used by everyone in reflecting on what they have done and to evaluate themselves and their relationship with God Almighty. Let us reflect, repent, relive and reconnect ourselves with God this Holy Week. Let us also do good to ourselves and others for us to pay back the goodness of God to us. God, indeed is good to us all the time.
This Holy Week is the time for us to ask for the forgiveness of God from our sins. We should do it seriously and heartily. Asking for forgiveness from God is no joke, it should be done properly, seriously, and wholeheartedly. Let us repent and go back to God.
