THE City Government of Tagbilaran officially opened its Inter-Departmental League 2024 with a vibrant ceremony held on June 7, 2024 at the Saulog Gym.
The event kicked off with a short parade of department heads, players, and coaches, who marched from the City Hall grounds to Saulog Gym, showcasing the spirit of unity and camaraderie among the city’s employees.
The league features six teams representing various office clusters, all set to compete in different sports events.
During the opening program, Mayor Jane Yap and Vice Mayor Adam Jala delivered inspiring messages, emphasizing the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and physical fitness.
Mayor Yap said, “This league is a celebration of our shared commitment to fostering a healthy and active community within our city government.”
Chief of Staff John Geesnell “Baba” Yap led the athletes in taking the Oath of Sportsmanship, reaffirming their dedication to fair play and respect for fellow competitors.
One of the highlights of the opening ceremony was the selection of the Team Muse. Mel Rose Oliverio of the Green Team was crowned Miss Inter-Departmental League 2024, adding a touch of glamour and excitement to the event.
The festivities continued into the evening with exciting basketball games, marking the start of the league’s competitions.
This year’s league will feature various ball games, including Men’s and Women’s Volleyball, Basketball, and other traditional Filipino games or Larong Pinoy.
The Inter-Departmental League is part of the celebrations leading up to the Tagbilaran City Charter Day on July 1.
The games are scheduled to conclude by the end of June, promising a month filled with friendly competition and community spirit.
This initiative underscores the city government’s commitment to promoting wellness and unity among its employees, while also providing a platform for showcasing their talents and fostering a sense of community.
