210 city BHWs undergo training

The City Government of Tagbilaran, through the Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility (TCPCF), recently organized a comprehensive training program for 210 Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) to enhance their skills and competencies. The training sessions were conducted in three batches: on May 15-17, May 22-24, and May 29-31 at Jj’s Seafood Village.

The training aimed to enhance the skills and competencies of BHWs, equipping them with essential knowledge to better serve their communities.

City Health Officer Dr. Jeia Pondoc led the training, ensuring a well-structured and impactful program.

The training covered a wide range of topics essential for effective community health work.

Basic competencies were addressed by Robin Culpa, Paulo Antonio Sarabia, April Grace Lagrosas, and James Bompat, providing foundational knowledge and skills necessary for BHWs.

Additionally, Artemia Lison outlined the key duties and responsibilities of health workers, emphasizing the importance of their roles.

Several priority areas were highlighted during the training to address specific health concerns. Ellyn Ungab, Dr. Joan Flores, and Rey Delos Santos emphasized the importance of physical activity and proper nutrition in the “Move More, Eat Right” session.

Christopher Sergito Uy, Mary Sheil Leorna, and Ralph Albert Bernaldez discussed hygiene practices and sustainable living in the “Be Clean, Live Sustainably” segment.

Concepcion Arboleras and Consuelo Estonina covered the importance of vaccinations in the “Get Vaccinated” session, while Robin Culpa handled the topic “Care for Yourself, Care for Others.”

Additional sessions focused on crucial health and safety topics.

Marjorie Torculas provided education on safe sex practices in the “Practice Safe Sex” session, and Hannfil Pacomios focused on safety protocols in “Do Not Harm, Put Safety First.”

Furthermore, Hazel Remolador taught BHWs how to effectively profile households and manage supplies, ensuring they have the necessary tools and knowledge to support their purok and barangays efficiently.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap expressed her support for the initiative, stating, “Our Barangay Health Workers are the backbone of our community health system. This training is essential in empowering them with the skills and knowledge they need to effectively address the health needs of our residents. We are committed to continuously investing in our health workers to ensure the well-being of Tagbilaranons.”

The participants expressed their gratitude for the training, noting that the knowledge gained would greatly enhance their ability to serve their barangays.
