ENGAGING in physical activity can enhance mental well-being, assist in weight management, lower the risk of illness, fortify bones and muscles, and facilitate daily tasks. Adults who engage in moderate-to-intense physical activity and reduce their sitting time benefit in various ways. Participating in sports improves friendships, develops time management skills, keeps you in shape, and fosters ties with adults and peers. (https://www.cdc.gov › physicalactivity › basics › pa-health). DepEd Region VII conducted the Central Visayas Regional Athletic (CVIRAA) Sports Meet on May 4-9, 2024 (RM 37, s. 2024). The CVIRAA Meet was hosted by the Cebu City Division, with the leadership of Schools Division Superintendent Nimfa D. Bongo EdD. The Technical Officials were billeted at Ecotech, VICTO, and Applied Nutrition Center.
May 2, 2024, was the scheduled arrival of the Technical Officials to officiate the different sports events. A refresher course was conducted for all officiating officials on May 3, 2024, held at the Pavilion, DepEd Ecotech Center in the morning. In the afternoon, a breakout session for the refresher courses to be conducted at the different playing venues. In the morning of May 4, 2024, a Solidarity Meeting was conducted at the playing venues. A parade was participated by the twenty participating regions in the afternoon of May 4, 2024, at South Road Property. The Opening Program was conducted after the parade. In consideration of the heat index, outdoor games are to be played from 6:00 am to 9:00 am, a break be considered, then games to resume at 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Swimming is one of the major sports events during the CVIRAA 2024. The event started with learners with special educational needs in the afternoon of May 5, 2024. The event was co-managed by DepEd SDO Bohol’s Team led by Jean Reah Elaba, John Autoroza, and Lina Teves.
The swimming event was managed by the very competent technical officials led the Tournament Manager Junevir Cabrera from Bohol Division, Assistant Tournament Manager from Cebu City Division, Assistant Tournament Manager Joel H. Umbay from Cebu Province Division, Joseph Antique from Bayawan City Division, with the Members: Pamela Mae Mapute, Debie Lustre, Cesar Jamero, Rolando Cabanero, Ma. Maya V. Tumalon, Vincent Orapa, Ernesto Concon, Glecer Bongo, and Carlito Fuentes Jr. From Bohol Division; Rachel Ann Espaguerra from Canlaon City Division; Courtney Sebial, and Mary Jane Pernites from Carcar City Division; Joshua Beltran, Junnel Cutab, Jammer Maestrado, Ana Mariz Canitan, Rolly Layola, and Jig Tamayo from Cebu City Division; Erna Y. Tecson, Raquel Acebedo, Alma Diaz, Tito Nunez, Jaypee Villamor, Gaspar Desabille, and Benjie Ano-os from Cebu Province Division; Virginia Monares, Elmer Anthony Himongala from Danao City Division; Florgene Epan, Liezel Organista, Zenaida Gapuz, Ernido Lavador, Toni Rose Sayson from Dumaguete City Division; Leizle Gesulga, and Edna Molejon from Mandaue City Division; Francisco Traya from Naga City Division; Lucille Barillo, Jonah Jon Silva, Jonalit Baldado, Muhammad Nasif Arane, and Francisco Pinero from Negros Oriental Division; Lilibeth Igang, Martin Kasher Varona, and Mary Jane Estodillo from Tagbilaran City Division; Romeo Dumasis, Pyner Candralo, and Froilan Bahina from Toledo City Division.
The Swimming Technical Officials were billeted at Ecotech Center, Lahug, Cebu City. To ensure that all technical officials are physically, mentally, and psychologically ready to manage their assigned sports events, Medical Certificates were required from them. DepEd SDO Bohol got a very strong support from the top management: SDS Casiana P. Caberte, ASDSs Faye Luarez, and ASDS Eduardo Ompad, with the Division Sports Officer, John Torregosa. Financial and moral support were provided not only by the school adminsitrators, parents, coaches and trainers, but Bohol Province Governor Erico Aristotle C. Aumentado, and Vice Governor Dionisio Victor A. Balite visited Bohol Delegation billeted at Abellana National High School, Cebu City.
