What stopped the ASF spread?

THESE are some of the sad recollections of some residents during the onset of the ASF-induced checkpoints.

A motorist recalled that when stopped at the checkpoint, he was asked “naa moy dalang karneng baboy?”

When he answered in the negative, then they were allowed to pass.

Ingon ana ra kasayon ang checkpoint, he recounted.

Another one said the onset of the checkpoint caused so much anxiety, and difficulty.

And yet another interesting recollection.

Somebody informed the residents that their pigs would be “collected” because they were suspected of being inflected with the still unknown virus suspected of being ASF.

Because those who came were official-looking, and feeling helpless and hopeless, the owner reportedly said, “sigi dad-a nang among mga baboy pero ingna si mayor nga dili na mi mobotar niya sunod election. Daghan ra ba ming botante diri.”

Wa kuno madayon og dala ang ilang mga baboy kay mibiya ra man pod ang mga misulay og dala, he recounted.

We are among those who expressed elation for the rather “quick” action of the provincial government to stop the spread of the suspected ASF virus. And indeed we are very happy and extends our commendation for a job well done. But there is a question in mind that is shouting and demanding for an answer – what could be the reason for the “sudden” cessation of ASF hostilities?

Tubag – mora’g wala man tingali. Gi-unsa man nila pagpatay ug dis-a man nila ilubong?

Tubag – mora’g wala man tingali.

Nganong magsukit-sukit pa man ta? Yes, why are we antsy about it?

The ASF happened, and it could happen again. When and where, we still don’t know but one thing sure, it may happen again.

The point is – how we addressed effectively, and quickly, the situation in the 3 barangays in Dauis might be the same for any other similar outbreak in the future. So dapat lang nga hinumdoman nato og giunsa to pagsulbad.

Tubag daw beh.

We had the good fortune to attend the concert of Kuh Ledesma last Friday night, who at 69, was still a fantastic singer and entertainer.

She really can sing, and sing beautifully. And she really can talk, and talk very effectively.

Initially, I had doubts if she could still “deliver,” given her age. But deliver, she did. And just like her multitude of fans, I was convinced to sing along with her, especially her classic songs, Till I meet you, Dito ba, A long, long time ago and One more try.

She also belted out amazingly her version of Ed Sheeran’s Perfect, John Legend’s All of Me and Sylistics’ Becha by golly wow.

Her sharing of life experiences, her love life, and her close encounter with the Holy One riveted everyone’s attention, and nobody dared to walk away but listened to every word she said.  Pagka-maayoha gyod nga mosulti, ug mokanta, lagi.

Sulit ang attendance, thanks Ms. Kuh Ledesma.
