International Women’s Day Celebration 2024

EVERY year on March 8, people around the world mark International Women’s Day to bring attention to a variety of topics, including reproductive rights, gender equality, and violence and abuse against women. (https://pcw.gov.ph. national-womens-month). In celebrating International Women’s Day 2024, under the theme of “Investing in women: Accelerate progress”, the essential and inseparable roles of decent work and gender equality were emphasized.

The International Women’s Day (IWD) commemoration, a historical occasion that originated from women’s organizational activities in the early 20th century, is the source of the National Women’s Month celebration. March is a month to celebrate the strength of women’s voices and bring about good

change, from Women’s History Month to the worldwide celebration of International Women’s Day.

Ubay 2 District in the Municipality of Ubay, Province of Bohol, joins the International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration. The activity started with a parade. Colors were taken care of by the  Biabas Barangay Police. Ubay 2 Central Elementary School Drum Corps, with CESP Josephine S. Boyboy PhD and Imelda Elementary School Drum Corps, with Head Teacher Julieto Manuta add more energy to the participants of the said celebration.

Cagting Elementary School Head Teacher Lorna C. Boc led the siinging of Hymns. Selected Ubay 2 District 2 CES learners, led the doxology. In his message, SB Member, Education Committee Chair Christopher Villadores, emphasized that there is a need for the full support of activities that lead to the realization of this year’s theme in the country, “Lipunang Patas Sa Bagong Pilipinas:Kakayahan Ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan!”.

Biabas Barangay Captain Alvin Pobar, shared his insights on “Women Empowerment: Local Government Unit Perspectives. He assured of full support and cooperation with the different programs, projects, and activities that are geared towards total development.

The activity was also graced with the presence of the World Vision Program Officer, Bohol Northwest-Ubay in the person of Miss Pearly Dawn M. Fernandez, who shared her thoughts on “Women Empowerment: NGO Perspective”. Ma. Maya V. Tumalon PhD, MDM, expressed some concepts on “Challenging Gender Stereotypes”.

      A dance presentation was performed by the Ubay 2 District School Administrators with the special participation of the Parent-Teacher Association Presidents of the twelve elementary and four secondary schools. Ubay District 2 CESP Josephine S. Boyboy gave her welcome message, Union ESP Letecia P. Reloba, expressed

the statement of purpose, and Biabas Trade HS Principal, Diomedes Montero gave his closing remarks.        A Finale Dance, “Kinabuhi Ko, Ampingan Ko” was led by Clarice A. Yucot and Erwin Aton.  San Vicente HT Nino G. Lagumbay, and Tipolo ESP Ligaya Cutamora served as Masters of Ceremony.
