Cops thwarted kidnap of Chinese woman in Panglao

JOINT police operatives of the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) have thwarted the attempt for kidnap-for-ransom of a Chinese woman by suspects —- four Chinese nationals and two Filipino suspects in Panglao town on October 24, 2023.

The said suspects were arrested and the victim, 53 years old, Chinese national and is a resident of Jiangsu Province, China on board of van at about 8:45 in the morning in barangay Poblacion, Panglao was safely rescued from kidnapping, police report said.

The suspects were identified but police could not yet provide their true names. They are Ming of legal age, residing at Ermita, Manila; Nok, 34 years old, single, resident of Nan Chong; Wun, 33 years old, single, resident of Wuxi; Nung, 34 years old, married, resident of Biyie; Ben, Filipino, 25 years old, single, residing at St. Sta. Mesa, Manila; and Jag, 23 years old, single, residing at Pasay City, Manila.

Confiscated from the suspects were two 45 cal. pistols and two vehicles, one of which is owned by the victim.

Police said that based on its initial inquiry, suspects were able to get ransom money from the family of the victim through bank transfer.

The operations were conducted in response to the report on October 23, 2023, for possible crime of Kidnapping of the victim, who was last seen on October 18, 2023 at neighboring town of Dauis, Bohol.

The suspects’ arrest was primarily based on the use of technology, investigation, intelligence, backtracking of CCTVs and interview of witnesses, police said.

The rescued victim is being processed to be turned over to her family upon compliance of standard health procedures as the police is coordinating with the Chinese Embassy and the Department of Foreign Affairs. (rvo)
